Magherafelt Sky Blues 2 Northend United 3 Saturday 2nd November 2013
Northend United U11s played another very strong team this weekend against Magherafelt Sky Blues U11s. Northend welcomed the return of defender Fiontan McQuillan who made a massive difference to the team. His partnership with Calum Kilgore at the back steadied Northend as this has been their weakness to date. Magherafelt played good football and the match was very even. Northend took an early lead in the first half through Jordan Wilson from a well worked team move with once touch football. Unlike other weeks Northend started bright and fought hard in all their challenges. Harry Wylie battled in midfield putting in some strong tackles with Calum Kilgore playing like a boy possessed clearing anything that came his way. Fiontan McQuillan was comfortable in bringing the ball out of defence which was the major difference compared to other weeks. However Magherafelt did equalise from a counter attack but it was Northend who deserved their second goal before the half. From a quick throw in H Wylie controlled the ball and passed into the box to Jordan Wilson scoring his second. Half time score 2-1
The second half started with the introduction of Jamie Montgomery for Jamie Morrow and Pierce Esler for Rio Tsang. As with the first half, Northend competed hard on and off the ball disrupting any of Magherafelt's play. Pat Ferris had his usual outstanding game wriggling through the defence and always somehow coming out with the ball. Ciaran Campbell work tirelessly in midfield and breaking up the play linking well with Pierce Esler who took on his opponent. It was from one of Pierce Esler's runs finding Pat Ferris in the middle who then played in Ciaran Campbell making it 3-1. Northend Had battled hard never stopping and began to tire near in the last ten minutes. Magherafelt came into the game more and Northend found themselves under more and more and more pressure. Magherafelt had a shot which came back off the wheel of the goals and Northend stopped thinking it was a goal kick but the ref thought it had came back of the post. Magherafelt played on and hit the rebound high into the net making it 3-2. However Northend played out the remainder of the game winning deservedly 3-2.
This was a fantastic performance from everyone after playing all U12 teams to date, Northend got a well earned win which can only bode well for their upcoming fixtures. Final score 3-2
